Itunes 11.1

Category: accessible Devices

Hi:

I just downloaded Itunes 11.1 on my laptop. I'm running Jfw 12, but I did download 14. This download sucked. it takes forever to load, and when I go to the store home page on Itunes, the preview link isn't read. apparently, there's an icon, but I'm not sure where it is, or how to access it. Anyone else had issues with this version of Itunes? What should I do to remedy the situation, should I just roll back to another version?

I don't have any problems using the store with Jaws 14. You might want to just switch to that version whenever you use ITunes. But what really annoys me is that they took the search option out of the store menu. You now have to tab a hundred times just to hope you'll find the edit field where you can type what you want to look for, unless there's a keyboard shortcut that I'm unaware of that will take you to the edit field.

There is s shortcut, several of them. Use 14 with it though and you'll need to change the way you look at it.
Instead of things going up and down think about them as colums, or for a blind person left to right.

To find the list of keyboard shortcuts open iTunes, press Alt plus the letter H. Brings you to the help section. Arrow down to it and hit enter.

Ok, thanks. i'll do that. the issue with the search box is the only thing I don't like about the new ITunes. It's much more responsive now, and it seems to add files to my library in half the time it took previous versions to do the same thing.

I'd agree. I think it's pretty slick. It doesn't crash as offten, so seems to be more stable.

So okay, how do I preview a song. I can't find a link or anything that says that. Help!!

Also, if I get an Ipod Touch 4th or 5th Gen. will the Itunes feature work better than it does with Jfw? Jaws and Itunes don't seem to get along too well!

I love Jaws and iTunes. To play a song just hit enter on it, or applications key and arrow to play.
The space bar seems to work as well. I just go to the song I want to play, just did it right now, and press spacebar. If I want to stop it I press the spacebar again.
Nice.

I'm concerned about how to preview a song before I buy it. When I press enter on the song name, it just takes me to that song's information, and asks if I want to buy it. I've tried all the shortcut keys I can think of, and nothing works.

I just got my first IPod touch. I had some experience playing with other people's IPhones which has helped a lot. Now, I just have to be patient and learn ITunes. Hahaha. I'm sure I can, since I pretty much taught myself how to use Skype, but the patience part...

Ok, I've just tried this myself as I haven't bought anything from the ITunes store since upgrading, and I have to say that the preview buttons are in fact gone. I found that hard to believe until the poster kept talking about it, so I checked it out. This is bad. You now have to go on good faith that an album is good rather than knowing for sure before you buy it. I definitely don't like that.

when using jaws, you can hit f6 to jump around quicker. It will take you to the surch box, the list of the songs and a couple of other places. I like the new Itunes better than the older one. I do not like how you can't preview the music first too.

Thanks for the f6 tip. Frankly, that's bullshit that you can't preview songs. I'm surprised people haven't complained massively to Apple about this. It's not like apple is getting any of the money through ITunes sales, so forcing people to buy albums without knowing if they'll like them or not doesn't really do them any favors.

I see that several of you are having problems with the iTunes store when it comes to previewing songs.
For users of Jaws this is no problem at all with scripts created for iTunes by gentlemen named John Martyn and team.
http://www.blindtunes.net/
These scripts make iTunes, Rahphsody, and Stotify work beautifully.
Each script download has its own page, so for this discussion I’ve only given the link for iTunes, however, on that page you’ll find the others.
I am currently using these scripts with Jaws 14, and Windows 8, but have had success with Jaws 11Windows XP and up. On the page you’ll note they’ve only been tested with Jaws 11 through 14 and up to Windows 7, but mine work just fine. I also use the Rhapsody scripts as well, and on this page you’ll find all the information you’ll need.
Personal note,
When I install the scripts I select the Enu English US folder. You use the arrow keys to find this folder if it is not selected. Your experience may be different, but for me this works.
You can install the scripts in any version of Jaws you like; however, I find the current version works best with iTunes 11.
The commands are pretty simple and are a combination of control+shift+ some letter. Example, if I want to get in the store I press control+shift+W. The scripts also have a help section.
After starting iTunes you might encounter an error with the language setup. I press the enter key there and that clears it up, and a female voice welcomes you to Blind Tunes.
I don’t have any information for users of other screen readers at this time, but will post them if I do.
Enjoy.

I forgot to say. To preview a song you click enter on the songs number.
Some tracks will show a button above the name.To start or stop the song press the spacebar as you would playing songs in your library.
I hope that description helps.

I would like to address post 9 directly.
When you click on the song and you go to the songs, or albums page you must arrow down. You'll find much information on the page.
Maybe a write up about the album, or things about the song, but if you keep going down you'll get to the song and as I say pressing enter on the number even if it is 0 will play the track. Some songs have the number right above them on the main page, or a "preview" link as well.
As posted F 6 just the letter H, or N, regular enternet controls move you around the pages.
On albums there is a preview all songs button at the bottom of the list as well.

I love the fact that you can do airplay which I do a lot on my Apple TV. The bad thing is like it lost the treview that it used to have. Like if it's on music and I want to go to books I have to find the music button, click on it, and then type b for books. But at least it still works. Good luck all.
